Clean The Spray Arm On Your Dishwasher
Even though your dishwasher is responsible for cleaning your dishes, sometimes it needs a little cleaning help of its own in order to keep your dishes clean. Make sure you keep your spray arm clean if you want clean dishes.
#1 Remove Wire Baskets
First, you need to remove the wire baskets from your washing machine. On most washing machines, you have to remove the cap or pin at the end of the sliding track in order to remove the wire baskets that you put your dishes into. Once you remove the cap or pin, you should be able to pull the racks out of the washing machine. This will make it easier to get to the spray arm.
#2 Twist Off The Spray Arm
The spray arm is located on the bottom of your dishwasher. You are going to need to remove the cap on the spray arm. To remove the cap on the spray arm, twist the cap clockwise. Once the cap is loose, you are going to need to lift the cap straight up off the arm.
Take the cap and wash it out. You may want to use a thin scrub brush or toothbrush to clean the inside of the cap.
#3 Scrub Around The Base
After you remove the cap, it is time to clean the base of the spray arm. You are going to want to use a toothbrush to scrub it clean. There could be dirt and junk in the crevices around the base. Wipe the area clean using a damp cloth or sponge. You may want to use some dish soap to clean around the base. Oftentimes, grease and other hard to move material collect around the base.
#4 Remove Gunk Stuck In Holes
Now you need to focus on the spray arm. On the spray arm there are a couple of little holes in a row on each blade of the spray arm. Debris can also gather inside of the holes on each blade of the spray arm. To clean the spray arm you are going to want to use a thin wire. Take a thin wire and poke it into the holes; the holes on the spray arm are hollow. You should be able to clean out the debris in the holes.
Now you need to put the cap and the spray arm back in place. You'll need to twist the cap counterclockwise. Then put the baskets back in place and your dishwasher should be working great again.
